The teachers in this class assist the young child in making the
transition from home to the larger school community. The environment,
based on the particular needs and abilities of this unique age, is
carefully designed to promote independence. The Montessori materials and
interaction with teachers and peers enhance each child's growing
language skills. As this is a period of intense language development, we focus on building vocabulary and using verbal skills to communicate. Since the child at this stage is also growing in motor development, the materials and the furniture are toddler size, helping the children develop gross motor skills and responsibility.
